Formed by Jim Burns, Refined Design Builders, Inc.is a contemporary design build company. Since its inception in 1999 the focus of Refined Design has been to incorporate form and function and to create unique living spaces and fabricated elements for classic restorations, remodels, and new construction.

Jim has a BFA from the University of Buffalo located in Buffalo New York. Primarily educated in the fine arts Jim uses artistic sensibilities of shape, line, and form to balance a natural sense of physical space and material. The work lends itself to one of a kind projects and livable custom spaces. We work intimately planning and designing a project to form a cohesive statement start to finish.

Regular collaborations with local artisans, contractors, architects, and designers allow a great deal of input and flexibility with materials and ideas. By tapping into the vast resources available in the Bay Area each project has unlimited possibilities and evolves with inspiration.

Refined Design Builders, Inc. has multiple license classifications, including General Building (B), Carpentry (C5), and Millwork and Cabinetry (C6). We also provide project management and home maintenance solutions for projects of any size. RDB is located and operated in Oakland, California and serves the entire Bay Area.
